Master Scholarships in Migration and Intercultural Relations, Erasmus Mundus, Europe

The programme combines the European JMMIR network and the Euro-African IMMIS network. Consortium members are: University of Oldenburg (UOL), Germany, University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway, University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic, Ahfad University for Women, Sudan plus Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science & Technology in Uganda.

The programme combines expertise in migration studies with intersecting fields, such as gender studies, cultural studies, and education and development studies.

Focus
The two key terms of reference for this study programme are migration and intercultural relations. Migration is understood here as encompassing all forms of international migration, voluntary as well as forced movements. Internal displacement, prominent especially in African contexts, will also be addressed. Intercultural relations include not only communication and other forms of interaction between the majority and resident minorities/diasporic communities within nation states but also interethnic relations in the (inter-)national arena and beyond nation states – including multinational settings and concepts such as multiculturalism or cosmopolitanism.

There are four programme main focus:

    * Gender
    * Development
    * Representation
    * Education

The focus serve as the foundation students use to develop their individual specialisation and profile, e.g. by combining them with a geographic focus involving one or more of the countries in the partnership, potentially also linked to individual language skills. The language of instruction is English, but students will be encouraged to enhance bi- or multilingual language skills.

Scholarship
When applying for EMMIR, applicants are invited to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (except if they have benefitted from such a scholarship before). Applicants will be informed if they are awarded a scholarship with the admission notification.There are two different forms of scholarships, Category A and Category B. The scholarships` terms depend on the student`s country of origin/residence and main academic and/or professional activity.

Category B scholarships are available for applicants who:

The participation costs cover all programme activities and health insurance; they do not include the hosting university`s registration and student service fees, room and board as well as other living expenses and travel. For required travel see mobility path. In addition, students will have to pay the partner universities` registration and social service fees at the university they attend.
